About the Program
The National Science Foundation (NSF) and Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) funded Collaborative Approaches among Scientists and Engineers (CASE) Research Experience is a 10-week research program for undergraduates located at Auburn University. Field and laboratory research projects are available for students majoring in STEM disciplines including chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and all branches of engineering.
The multidisciplinary nature of STEM disciplines allows for innovative collaborations and for students, encourages deeper critical thinking skills. The CASE REU offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students majoring in STEM disciplines to work on a cross-disciplinary project led by teams of two faculty mentors from two distinct disciplines. Additionally, students will participate in professional development and social activities. Students will have the opportunity to present their research at the closing symposium.
It confirmed that this is where I want to be. I would encourage other students to try it, especially getting into that lab space and seeing what people are actually doing each day.

The importance of this REU was three-fold. First, the development of professional skills that allows me to stand out. Second, the knowledge, experience and guidance gained through laboratory exposure and mentoring. Finally, the clarity of my pursuit to attend graduate school.
The CASE REU program provides students with the opportunity to work on cross-disciplinary research projects, build mentoring relationships and explore future academic and career pathways in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Stipend
All REU students will be fully supported during their experience with a $7,000 stipend and a $1,500 food stipend. Additionally, participants will receive free lodging in Auburn University dorms for the entire program.
Eligibility
All applicants must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National or permanent resident and an undergraduate that has at least completed their freshman year.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should provide the following information:
1. Personal statement (no more than two pages) detailing your scientific interest and career goals.
2. Digital copy of your academic transcript (unofficial is acceptable).
3. Two letters of recommendation from a faculty advisor at your home institution or a mentor from a previous research experience.
Non-Auburn residents will receive free on-campus housing in suite-style dormitories together with other REU participants. Auburn residents (or students who have secured summer housing in Auburn) will receive a housing allowance in addition to their stipend.
We recommend that long distance participants arrive via Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. There is a bus shuttle service, Groome Transportation, that will bring you from the airport to Auburn University. Arrangements will be made so that a program director meets you upon arrival to assist with settling in to your residence.
