Biomedical Sciences is designed for students planning to pursue advanced clinical or professional programs, while Health Sciences offers a flexible, interdisciplinary approach to exploring a wide range of health-focused careers.

Biomedical Sciences students have access to research across the College of Sciences and Mathematics and Auburn, with opportunities in areas from pharmacy to veterinary sciences. Students gain practical experience that supports graduate student and careers in health care.

I had always thought I would be a software engineer, but over time I realized that I truly desired a career in the medical field that keeps me on my feet and engages me in a community. It wasn’t until the day of Camp War Eagle that I knew I wanted to be a dentist, and I switched to Biomedical Sciences as my major. I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
I had the opportunity to study abroad twice with COSAM! I am appreciative for how both programs focused on different elements of my career interests while immersing me in new cultures with new opportunities. I have also had the opportunity to have wonderful shadowing experiences with physicians in the Auburn/Opelika area. I especially loved observing obstetricians and gynecologists.
One of the best parts of Auburn for me has been the relationships I’ve been able to develop with faculty and my peers. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some really fantastic people who strive to help others — including me — succeed in whatever it is that we set our minds to. Every time I talk to people about Auburn, I always say that coming here was the best decision I have made.
After the first semester, I realized COSAM had a lot of opportunities for pre-med students. The pre-health advising, the newsletter and the Canvas page all felt tailored to that path. Some of my favorite classes were cell biology and genetics. The classes were challenging, and the exams were structured in a way that felt similar to MCAT questions. We were given scenarios and had to think critically, which made me feel prepared. Looking back, I feel confident that COSAM prepared me for what comes next
I’ve grown a lot because of the research requirement. The lab includes me in opportunities I never expected to have this early. Having that kind of support has pushed me to keep learning and made me think more seriously about the kind of doctor and researcher I want to be. I definitely want research to be part of my career.
