Assistant Dean Elizabeth Schwartz
Dr. Beth Schwartz received her BS in microbiology from Auburn University in 1989 and her PhD in Immunology from Emory University School of Medicine in 1996. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and at the National Institutes of Health. She became a faculty member at Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2002 and moved to the department of Biological Sciences at Auburn in 2012, where she is currently a professor. She teaches immunology, case studies in infection and immunity, and a seminar course in MCAT/DAT Preparation. Her research focused on innate immunity to bacterial pathogens. She has been the Assistant Dean for Biomedical Sciences since January 2024.
Biomedical Sciences Advisory Committee
The Biomedical Sciences Advisory Committee provides leadership and guidance for the Biomedical Sciences program within the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University. Led by the assistant dean and composed of faculty and staff from across the college, the committee works collaboratively to support the continued development and success of the program.
The committee is charged with advancing curricular planning, assessment practices, and promotional strategies to ensure the Biomedical Sciences major remains rigorous, responsive, and aligned with student and professional expectations.
The Biomedical Sciences program is also supported by the Student Services Office, which provides outstanding academic advising, pre-health programs, career services and the pre-professional application course.
COSAM Academic Advising Team
The COSAM Academic Advising team has members assigned to students pursuing a major in Biomedical Sciences. Advisors work closely with students to support academic planning, degree progression and timely preparation for professional school applications. From course sequencing and policy guidance to navigating milestones and challenges, academic advisors are committed to helping students make informed decisions and stay on track toward their academic and career goals within the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University.
Pre-Health Advising Team
The Pre-Health Programs team provides specialized guidance for students pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine and other health professions. Working in partnership with academic advisors and faculty, pre-health advisors support students through long-term planning, experiential preparation and the professional school application process. This team offers programming, workshops and individualized advising designed to help students build strong, competitive applications while exploring and confirming their professional goals.
