Graduation Marshal

Each semester, one graduating student is selected to represent COSAM at Auburn University Commencement. The COSAM Graduation Marshal leads the college’s procession of graduates and carries the COSAM gonfalon.

We support the review and recommendation process for the COSAM Graduation Marshal each semester.

Selection Process

Each semester, we review eligible graduating students for Graduation Marshal consideration. Around the midpoint of the summer and fall terms, high-achieving students enrolled in UNIV 4AA0: Creed to Succeed may be invited to submit a resume or CV for review.

During the spring semester, students nominated for COSAM Academic Awards who are also enrolled in UNIV 4AA0 are automatically reviewed for this honor.

Student materials are reviewed by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. After a brief meeting with the selected finalist, a final recommendation is forwarded to the COSAM Dean.

Eligibility

Students considered for Graduation Marshal should meet the following criteria by the end of their graduating semester:

• Completed at least 60 hours at Auburn University
• Earned an unadjusted GPA of 3.40 or higher
• Demonstrated leadership, citizenship, character and strong potential for future professional success

The Graduation Marshal is typically an undergraduate student. If no eligible undergraduate student is available, a graduate student, most often at the master’s level, may be selected. For students with a double major, selection is tied to their primary college of enrollment.
