Academic Honors

COSAM celebrates students, faculty and graduate teaching assistants whose academic achievement, teaching, mentoring and leadership strengthen the College of Sciences and Mathematics.

The Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs supports several academic honors processes each year, including the COSAM Academic Awards, Graduation Marshal selection and Dean’s List recognition.

Academic Honors Timeline

Mid-Semester (Fall, Spring, Summer)
Graduating students who are eligible top candidates for Graduation Marshal will be contacted at approximately mid-semester to submit their current CV or resume to be considered for selection. The COSAM ADAA Office will contact the selected Graduation Marshal to collect information and share details regarding the duties and responsibilities of the marshal.
November 1–30

Nominations for Academic Awards are accepted through award-specific Smartsheet forms. An updated copy of the nominee’s CV or resume and the names of up to three support letter writers are required.

December 1–January 31

Departments process nominations, collect support letters and make selection decisions or recommendations for Academic Awards. Departments select recipients for the Dean’s Medalist and Outstanding Junior awards and make recommendations for the Schneller Award, Comer Medals, President’s Award, Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards, Faculty Awards and International Student Awards.

Department deadlines for support letters may vary. Please check with the appropriate departmental awards representative for details.

Mid- to late February

Academic Award recipients are notified of their selection.

April

College-level Academic Awards are presented at COSAM Honors Convocation. These include the Dean’s Medalist, Outstanding Junior, Schneller Award, Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards, International Student Awards, Undergraduate Faculty Mentor Award and Undergraduate Faculty Teacher Award. University-level awards are presented at separate ceremonies throughout the spring semester.

2-3 Weeks Post-Semester (Fall, Spring, Summer)
COSAM students who have been named to the Dean’s List will be mailed to their permanent address a certificate and letter from the ADAA Office in recognition of their achievement.
