Science Olympiad is a nationally recognized, team-based STEM competition that challenges students to apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on events and problem solving. Through Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), Auburn proudly supports Science Olympiad programs across Alabama — connecting students, educators, volunteers and alumni in a shared commitment to STEM education.
COSAM’s involvement spans elementary through high school programming, including hosting the Alabama State Science Olympiad, supporting school teams and educators, and engaging alumni who continue to give back to the program. Whether you are a student competing for the first time, a coach preparing a team, a volunteer supporting competition day or an alumnus looking to stay involved, Science Olympiad at Auburn offers meaningful opportunities to learn, compete and connect.
Elementary Science Olympiad introduces younger students to teamwork, inquiry and creative problem solving through age-appropriate, hands-on STEM events. Designed to spark curiosity and build confidence, the program emphasizes learning through exploration while laying the foundation for future participation in Science Olympiad at higher levels.
This division offers students an engaging first experience with scientific thinking beyond the classroom and supports educators in fostering early interest in STEM disciplines.
The Alabama State Science Olympiad brings together top-performing middle and high school teams from across the state to compete in a wide range of STEM events. Hosted by Auburn University, the state competition showcases student achievement, collaboration and innovation while celebrating excellence in science and engineering education.
