How to Apply

The Department of Biological Sciences welcomes applicants interested in graduate study across the breadth of modern biology. Our graduate students work with faculty mentors in areas including behavior, ecology, evolution and conservation; evolutionary genetics and systematics; physiological adaptations and functional genomics; host-microbial interactions; and biology education research.

Before applying, prospective students are encouraged to review faculty research areas and contact potential faculty advisors whose work aligns with their interests.

Submit English proficiency scores, if required

International applicants should submit IELTS or TOEFL scores directly to the Graduate School to demonstrate English proficiency.

The Department of Biological Sciences does not require or accept GRE scores.

Request letters of recommendation

Applicants should invite three references to submit letters of recommendation through the online application system.

Academic references are preferred and strongly recommended. Applicants may log in to the application portal to check the status of recommendation letters and send reminders to recommenders.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for fall semester admission with a guaranteed Graduate Teaching Assistantship offer is Feb. 1.

Domestic students may apply up to 45 days before the start of the semester; however, Graduate Teaching Assistantship support is not guaranteed after the Feb. 1 deadline.

International students may apply up to 90 days before the start of the semester; however, Graduate Teaching Assistantship support is not guaranteed after the Feb. 1 deadline.
