Nomination Procedure
Each department may nominate ONE (1) faculty member for this award. Nominations are typically made by the department chair or in some cases the chair of the department awards committee. Nomination packets must include:

• Nominating letter
• 2 or 3 letters of support (no more than 4 letters total)
• The nominee's full CV

Previous winners can be eligible again after five years, but if a previous winner is nominated, their application must be based on research productivity and accomplishments during the time period from the year they won the award previously to the present. In this case the application packet should include an abbreviated CV, emphasizing work done since the previous award was won.

It is the responsibility of the candidate's sponsor/nominator (e.g., department chair) to assemble all nominating materials. These should be combined into a single pdf file and uploaded to the awards web site at the link below.

COSAM prides itself in the research and scholarly pursuits of its faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students. To recognize these accomplishments the Dean's Research Awards were established. These awards are given annually from nominations received from they departments. They are awarded during the Dean's Research Awards presentation in the spring term of each year.

COSAM has a strong tradition of supporting outstanding undergraduate students in directed research.

Nomination Procedure:
Each department may nominate ONE (1) undergraduate student. Nominations are typically initiated by the faculty research mentor. Because there are multiple outstanding undergraduates in each department, nominations should be screened by the departmental awards committee, which will select the one student they feel is most qualified to go forward to the College. Nomination packets must include:

• Nominating letter by the faculty mentor
• 1-2 letters of support (no more than 3 letters total)
• Full CV of the student
• 1-page description of the student's research written by the student for a COSAM audience

It is the responsibility of the student's sponsor/nominator (e.g., major professor) to assemble all nominating materials. These should be combined into a single pdf and submitted to the awards committe of the respective departments. The awards committee should then upload the nomination package for the student they select using the link below. 

Submit a Nomination

The intent of this award is to recognize and support the scholarly work of a young faculty member at an early stage in his or her career. This includes scholarship in all areas of importance for the university, including research, teaching, and outreach, with particular emphasis on research accomplishments and promise. All tenured associate and full professors in COSAM who are within five years of their last promotion at Auburn University are eligible for this award. This is a five-year, non-renewable award. The recipient will receive $5000 per year to be used to support their scholarly work.

Funding has been made available by the College of Sciences and Mathematics to support travel related to research and teaching for the upcoming fiscal year. All tenure Professors, tenure-track Professors, Research Professors, and Lecturers from COSAM are eligible to apply. 

Official application deadlines for the current fiscal year are listed below and are contained in the Call for Applications, a memorandum sent to all COSAM faculty members approximately one month before each deadline. 

Applications are reviewed by the COSAM Faculty Travel Awards Committee, which consists of a chair and two additional COSAM faculty members. The committee will review applications shortly after the deadline and announce decisions promptly. Current committee members and contact information are listed below.

Requirements

1. Funds will be utilized in support of research and teaching activities associated with presentations at national and international technical meetings, conferences, and symposia.
2. Funds can be used to travel and participate in an in-person conference or meeting, or to participate in a virtual conference/meeting.  
3. Funds are limited to COSAM faculty members holding full-time tenured or tenure-track appointments, and to research professors and lecturers who are employed on campus during the semester that travel takes place.
4. The pertinent in-person or virtual event must take place during the time specified in the application.
5. The amount of each award can be up to $1000 for in-person meetings and up to $500 for virtual meetings, depending on need and documented efforts to obtain funds from the applicant's department or other source (e.g., research grants). A faculty member can receive at most one COSAM travel award in any two consecutive review periods.

Considerations

1. Positive factors relate to active teaching and research programs of the applicant, the quality of the meeting, the importance of the meeting to the faculty member, and the applicant’s funding situation.
2. Some preference is given to an applicant who has attempted to obtain funds from other sources.
3. Preference is given to applicants who have not recently received a COSAM Travel Award.
4. Preference may be given to junior faculty in early stages of their careers.
5. Funds will be distributed with consideration given to each department represented in the pool of applicants.

• A brief (1-2 page) current vita listing your 5 most recent publications and your grant/contract submissions during the last 5 years.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Apply for Faculty Travel Funds

The COSAM Dean's Office is soliciting nominations for COSAM Faculty Service/Outreach Award. Nominees should be COSAM faculty members (tenured, tenure-track and non tenure-track faculty are eligible) with recent records of service/outreach performance that extend beyond normal expectiations.

The successes of the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University are often credited to its faculty and students. However, these successes are built upon foundations provided by the efforts of an outstanding and dedicated staff. The Lilly-Lovelace Distinguished Service Award is presented annually and recognizes individual staff members in COSAM who have helped to provide these foundations through exemplary service to the College.

The Lilly-Lovelace Distinguished Service Award is named in honor of two former COSAM staff members: Eva Lilly and Jan Lovelace. Lilly provided 42 years of service, most of which was in the Department of Geosciences. Lovelace was an executive support assistant in the COSAM Dean’s Office for 13 years. The award was established in 2012 after Lovelace retired.
