Faculty Travel Awards

Eligible applicants include COSAM faculty members holding full-time tenured or tenure-track appointments, as well as research professors and lecturers who are employed on campus during the semester when travel takes place.

Official application deadlines are announced in the Call for Applications, a memorandum sent to all COSAM faculty members approximately one month before each deadline.

Deadline: Sept. 30
For travel during Oct. 1-April 30

Deadline: March 31
For travel during May 1-Oct. 31

Awards may provide up to $1,000 for in-person meetings and up to $500 for virtual meetings.

Award amounts depend on need and documented efforts to obtain funds from the applicant’s department or another source, such as research grants.

A faculty member may receive no more than one COSAM travel award in any two consecutive review periods.

Funds support research and teaching activities associated with presentations at national and international technical meetings, conferences and symposia.

The in-person or virtual event must take place during the travel period specified in the application.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications are reviewed by the COSAM Faculty Travel Awards Committee. Positive considerations include:

✓ Active teaching and research programs
✓ Quality of the meeting
✓ Importance of the meeting to the faculty member
✓ Applicant’s funding situation
✓ Efforts to obtain funds from other sources
✓ Whether the applicant has recently received a COSAM Travel Award
✓ Career stage, with possible preference for junior faculty
✓ Departmental representation within the applicant pool

Applications should be submitted through the faculty travel award application link. Applicants should prepare the following materials as a single PDF to upload with the application:

✓ Copy of invitation, if applicable
✓ Brief current vita, one to two pages
✓ Five most recent publications
✓ Grant and contract submissions from the last five years
