Short Bio

Dr. Lotsch is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University. Her research focuses on understanding nano-bio interactions across multiple biological layers and their potential links to adverse human health outcomes, with a particular emphasis on realistic exposure scenarios involving low-dose, long-term, chronic exposures. She earned her PhD in science from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), including a one-year research internship at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO/France), where her work centered on the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis and biomarkers of susceptibility. Before joining Auburn University, Dr. Lotsch served as a Research Scientist and group leader at the Brazilian National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology (INMETRO), leading projects in nanotoxicology. She later joined the research group of Catherine Murphy in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where she conducted research on the interactions between gold nanoparticles and biological systems. Dr. Lotsch has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including articles in PNAS, Nanoscale and ACS Nano. She has been a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) since 2018, a Full Member of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) since 2022 and serves as Councilor of the SOT Southeastern Regional Chapter since 2023.
