GEOL 1100 Dynamic Earth. General physical geology. Survey of the important minerals and rocks. Origin and classification of geologic structures, earthquakes, and landforms. Study of geologic maps.

GEOL 1110 Earth and Life Through Time. Physical and biological history of the Earth, with emphasis on the interaction between life, the atmosphere, rocks, and oceans.

GEOL 2010 Mineralogy and Optical Crystallography. Physical and chemical properties of minerals, classification and roles with emphasis on natural systems, materials science, health, and environment

Innovation

Expanding our understanding of stalked crinoids in areas of ecology, taxonomy, and functional morphology using both the fossil record and living stalked crinoids. The continuing advancements in submersible technology over the past half-century led to new opportunities to investigate critical areas of crinoid evolutionary history. I use both the fossil record and the recently accessible living stalked crinoids to investigate critical areas of interest in crinoid evolutionary history such as the transition to a stalkless adult form in feather stars, swimming and mobility in crinoids, and testing hypothesis explain observed patterns in the fossil record.
