Short Bio
Steven Dixon serves as Multimedia Specialist III for Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics, where he leads visual storytelling through video, photography, web content, social media and science communication writing. An Auburn graduate with a B.A. in Communication, Steven has more than 15 years of experience producing multimedia content for higher education, corporate, legal, nonprofit and small-business clients. His work at COSAM includes research features, faculty and student stories, donor-focused campaigns and multimedia projects that have expanded engagement and earned national media reach. He is also an FAA-licensed drone pilot, founder of Steven Dixon Media and former Auburn City Council representative.

Professional Experience
Steven has more than 15 years of experience in multimedia communications, digital storytelling, and content strategy. In his role with Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics, he produces video, photography, web content, social media, newsletters and science communication features that highlight COSAM’s faculty, students, research, programs and outreach. His work includes research storytelling for Auburn’s The Wire and COSAM News, donor and recruitment campaigns, event coverage, and multimedia projects that support the college’s visibility and engagement.
In addition to his work at Auburn, Steven is the owner and creative director of Steven Dixon Media, where he has produced video, photography, live streaming, legal video, brand storytelling and web content for clients across higher education, corporate, nonprofit, government, legal, and small-business sectors. He previously served as Technical Director at Floris United Methodist Church and as an elected Auburn City Council representative, experiences that strengthened his background in leadership, public communication, project management and community engagement.
Innovation
Steven’s work focuses on multimedia storytelling, science communication and historical documentation. At Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics, he writes research and faculty feature stories that translate complex scientific work into accessible narratives for university, public and media audiences. His work includes articles for Auburn’s The Wire and COSAM News, as well as video and photography projects highlighting faculty research, student success, academic programs, donor impact and community outreach.
His creative research interests include visual storytelling, public communication, higher education marketing, science communication and the use of multimedia to connect academic work with broader audiences. He is also developing a historical coffee table book on the history and cultural significance of Toomer’s Corner, documenting one of Auburn’s most recognizable landmarks through archival research, photography and narrative storytelling.
Engagement
Steven’s outreach experience centers on using communication, photography, video and digital storytelling to connect Auburn University with broader public audiences. Through his work with the College of Sciences and Mathematics, he helps share the impact of COSAM’s research, students, faculty, academic programs, events and community engagement initiatives through web stories, newsletters, social media, video and photography.
His outreach work includes supporting recruitment, donor engagement, student success, alumni relations, public lectures, academic ceremonies and college events through accessible and engaging multimedia content. He also brings significant public communication experience from his service as an elected Auburn City Council representative from 2018 to 2022, where he worked directly with residents, city staff, community stakeholders and local organizations on issues affecting the Auburn community.
Steven’s broader outreach interests include science communication, higher education storytelling, civic engagement, visual communication and helping institutions share complex information in ways that are clear, useful, and meaningful to the public.

When he is not behind a camera or working on a story, Steven enjoys spending time with his Doberman, Bane, going to Orangetheory Fitness, watching movies, bowling and hanging out with friends. He also has a strong interest in real estate and home improvement, especially remodeling and renovation projects. After several major home projects, he is looking forward to building his dream home. He also enjoys outdoor adventures in his Ford Bronco, nicknamed “Broncosaurus.”
