COSAM Leaders
COSAM Leaders serve as the official student representatives of Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics. This select group of 24 juniors and seniors works alongside the Dean’s Office, Student Services Office, Advancement Office and Outreach Office to represent COSAM at events throughout the year.
Through their service, COSAM Leaders welcome prospective students and families, support college programs, connect with alumni and share the student experience with the Auburn community. Members represent the academic excellence, leadership and spirit of service that define the College of Sciences and Mathematics.
About COSAM Leaders
COSAM Leaders help strengthen relationships across the college by serving as ambassadors, hosts and student representatives at a wide range of events and programs.
Members work closely with COSAM faculty and staff while supporting recruitment, outreach, student engagement, alumni relations and college-wide celebrations. Their role gives prospective students, families, alumni and guests the opportunity to connect directly with current students who can share what it is like to study, grow and belong in COSAM.
The responsibilities of COSAM Leaders are varied, but their purpose is consistent: to serve the college, build meaningful connections and help others understand the opportunities available through COSAM.

Whether they are welcoming future students, assisting with alumni events or representing the college at outreach programs, COSAM Leaders help create a welcoming and professional experience for the COSAM community.
COSAM Leaders was established during the 1999–2000 academic year after Jenny Evans Swindall, then a senior in microbiology, approached Dean Stewart Schneller about creating a student ambassador organization for the College of Sciences and Mathematics.
Dean Schneller enthusiastically supported the idea and encouraged the group to be more than ambassadors. He wanted COSAM Leaders to interact meaningfully with Dean’s Office personnel so students could get to know the college’s staff and better understand the work of COSAM.
The name “COSAM Leaders” was soon adopted, and 12 students were selected as the inaugural class. Jenny Evans Swindall served as the first COSAM Leaders president, and Larry Wit was appointed as the organization’s faculty advisor.
Today, COSAM Leaders continue that tradition of student leadership, college service and connection.
Meet Your 2026–2027 COSAM Leaders
COSAM Leaders represent a wide range of majors, interests and experiences across the College of Sciences and Mathematics. These students are proud to share their Auburn stories, answer questions and help future students discover what makes COSAM a welcoming and challenging academic community.
COSAM Leaders may be requested to assist with college events, recruitment programs, alumni activities, outreach events and other opportunities where student representatives can help welcome guests and share the COSAM experience.
Faculty, staff and campus partners interested in requesting COSAM Leaders for an event should contact the organization or the College of Sciences and Mathematics with event details, including the date, time, location and type of support requested.
