Undergraduate Studies
Undergraduate study in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Auburn University provides students with a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning, analytical problem solving and quantitative methods. Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate students complete coursework in calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and advanced mathematics while developing computational and analytical skills that are valuable across many professions.
Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Program in Data Science
Outstanding students in the Applied Mathematics – Applied Discrete Mathematics program may apply to the Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Program (ABM) in Data Science and Engineering. This program allows students to complete graduate coursework during their senior year and apply up to nine credit hours toward both their undergraduate and master’s degrees.
Students then complete the remaining requirements for the MS in Data Science and Engineering – Data Science option, gaining advanced training in machine learning, statistical modeling and data analytics.
Undergraduate Minors
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics also offers minors that complement a wide variety of majors across the university.
Minor in Mathematics
The Mathematics Minor is designed to complement mathematics-related fields such as science, engineering and technology. Students complete a set of upper-level mathematics courses that strengthen analytical and problem-solving skills.
Minor in Statistics
The Statistics Minor provides training in statistical reasoning and data analysis. It is intended to enhance preparation in fields that rely heavily on data, including experimental sciences, engineering and social sciences.
Minor in Data Science
The Data Science Minor provides training in computational reasoning, statistical analysis and data-informed problem-solving. It is intended to enhance preparation in fields that rely on analyzing, interpreting and communicating data, including the sciences, engineering, business and the social sciences.
Mathematics Placement
Many students entering Auburn will take a Mathematics Placement Test to determine the appropriate starting course in mathematics.
The placement test helps ensure that students begin in a course that matches their current level of mathematical preparation. Results may place students into courses ranging from precalculus through calculus, depending on prior coursework and performance on the exam.
Students are encouraged to complete the placement assessment before registering for their first mathematics course.

Student Organizations & Engagement
Actuarial Club
The Actuarial Club provides students interested in actuarial careers with opportunities to learn more about the profession and connect with industry professionals. The organization supports students preparing for actuarial exams and careers in risk analysis, insurance and financial modeling.
Through meetings, guest speakers and networking events, members gain insight into the actuarial profession and develop skills relevant to internships and employment. The club also helps students stay informed about exam preparation resources and career opportunities in the field.
Mathematics Club
The Mathematics Club at Auburn University brings together students who share an interest in mathematics and related fields. Membership is open to all Auburn students, not just mathematics majors.
Through regular meetings and events, the club provides opportunities for students to learn from faculty, visiting speakers and professionals working in mathematics-related careers. Speakers often include Auburn faculty, mathematicians from other universities and professionals from fields such as actuarial science, finance and data analysis.
