The Department of Geosciences brings together faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners to explore Earth, the environment and society. Our programs in geography, environmental studies and geology are in-demand STEM fields that prepare students for meaningful careers. With a strong commitment to teaching, research and outreach, Auburn geoscientists contribute to the university’s land, sea and space grant missions while serving the people of Alabama and beyond.

The faculty in Geosciences make a point to personally connect with students, which has encouraged me to explore different focus areas. The department is small and tight-knit, which has allowed me to form connections with peers and collaborate inside and outside the classroom.
The geoscience program at Auburn opened my eyes to areas of study that I didn't have a lot of experience with, like field work and economic geology. Being able to study these topics closely through opportunities in the department helped me realize I want to go into a career related to them!
When you think geoscience, you think of rocks. But geoscience goes beyond rocks in so many ways. If you have an interest in the environment or ecology, there might be a place for you in geoscience.
