Facilities & Resources
The Department of Biological Sciences supports teaching, research and outreach through facilities located across Auburn University’s main campus and affiliated research sites.
Most faculty and staff offices and research laboratories are located in the Rouse Life Sciences Building and Funchess Hall, with additional research laboratories in the Center for Advanced Science Innovation and Commerce, or CASIC, in Auburn Research Park. The main departmental office is located in Room 101 of Rouse Life Sciences Building, and the Graduate Program Officer is located in Room 331 of Funchess Hall. Many teaching laboratories and lecture rooms are housed in the Sciences Center Complex, with additional teaching space in Rouse Life Sciences and Funchess Hall.
Biological Sciences faculty and students use a wide range of research and teaching spaces that support laboratory, field, computational, collection-based and classroom-based work. These facilities help students gain hands-on experience while supporting faculty research across the breadth of modern biology.
Faculty in the department also serve as directors or curators for several research facilities and collections available on campus, including the Auburn University Museum of Natural History, the Genomics and Sequencing Laboratory, the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Laboratory and the Hybridoma Facility. The department also oversees the Donald E. Davis Arboretum.

Through these resources, students and faculty have access to specimen collections, research instrumentation, field-based learning opportunities, environmental and climate research resources and collaborative partnerships that extend biological research beyond the classroom and laboratory.
Together, these facilities support research and instruction in areas such as ecology, evolution, conservation, genetics, genomics, physiology, microbiology, host-microbial interactions and biology education.
They also give students opportunities to connect coursework with real-world scientific practice, whether through laboratory research, field experiences, museum collections, environmental studies or collaborations with regional and national partners.
