Tracking Lists
The Alabama Inventory List is a statewide reference for rare, threatened and endangered plants and animals in Alabama.
Published by the Alabama Natural Heritage Program, the list includes species tracked by ALNHP and provides conservation status information used for research, planning, stewardship and conservation work.

The most recent inventory list was published in November 2023.
The list includes rare, threatened and endangered plants and animals in Alabama, organized by taxonomic group. It is compiled using the best scientific information available at the time of publication.
The Alabama Inventory List includes conservation status information for species tracked by ALNHP. Species are ranked using Heritage ranks, which help describe conservation status at the global and state levels.
Global ranks, or G-ranks, describe a species’ status across its full range. State ranks, or S-ranks, describe a species’ status in Alabama.
The Alabama Inventory List is intended as a statewide reference document. It may be useful for general planning, research, education and conservation awareness.
Because species information can change over time, the list may not reflect the most current information for every species, distribution or status. For site-specific information, environmental review, GIS data, maps or other information products, please submit a data request.
County-level rare species lists are available as a separate resource. These lists can help users explore known rare species and selected natural community records by Alabama county.
If you need site-specific rare species information, GIS data, maps or an environmental review letter, you can submit a data request to ALNHP. Requests may include species occurrence information, habitat data, conservation status information or project-specific review.
Because some species and locations are sensitive, data may be shared at different levels of detail depending on the request, intended use and potential conservation concerns.
