The Alabama Natural Heritage Program gathers, interprets and shares information critical to the conservation of Alabama’s biological diversity.
ALNHP staff build and maintain a comprehensive database of Alabama’s biological resources, including information about rare plants, rare animals and high-quality natural communities. This information helps agencies, organizations, researchers, consultants and citizens access objective, science-based information to evaluate threats, support public decision-making and advance conservation education.
Help Track Alabama’s Biodiversity
ALNHP is not a government regulatory agency and does not receive funding from the state or university. The program is funded through contracts with agencies and organizations to conduct field surveys, analyze data, and provide information and expertise on the natural resources of Alabama and the southeastern United States.
Charitable contributions help support ALNHP’s core mission to collect new information about occurrences of rare species and natural communities throughout the state and continue efforts to protect Alabama’s natural heritage.
As a program of Auburn University, ALNHP is eligible to receive donations through the Auburn University Foundation. Your tax-deductible gift helps support the program’s work with Alabama’s native species and habitats.
