The Alabama Natural Heritage Program relies on information gathered from a variety of sources to develop and maintain its biodiversity database.
ALNHP works to improve its data sets and incorporate available information about Alabama’s imperiled species, rare species habitats and natural communities. Observations and site information from researchers, partners and community members can help strengthen the information available for conservation efforts.
What Information Can Be Submitted?
You may be able to contribute information if you know the location of an exemplary or relatively undisturbed natural community, have site information for a rare species or have information about the habitat of an imperiled species.
Submitted information may include:
- Rare species observations
- Species location information
- Habitat information for imperiled species
- Site information for natural communities
- Information from field surveys, research or monitoring
ALNHP staff will review submitted information so it can be verified and incorporated into the database as appropriate.
If you have information about one of Alabama’s imperiled species and would like to submit a sighting report, please complete the rare species report form or contact ALNHP to provide the information.
If you need to submit information for more than a few rare species locations, you may wish to provide the data as a spreadsheet or database table.
