Academic Programs & Administration

The Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs plays a central role in curriculum development and academic program quality across COSAM. Our office leaads the COSAM Curriculum Committee and works closely with departments, faculty and university partners to coordinate the development, revision, review and approval of courses and academic programs. We also support academic assessment, program review and continuous improvement efforts to help ensure that COSAM curricula remain rigorous, current and responsive to the evolving needs of students, disciplines and society.

COSAM Curriculum Committee

The COSAM Curriculum Committee supports the development and advancement of curricula across the College of Sciences and Mathematics. The committee reviews curricular proposals, facilitates communication across departments and colleges and helps streamline the curriculum approval process. The committee also provides recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs regarding curriculum proposals before they move forward to university-level review.

Faculty proposing new courses, programs or updates to existing offerings should first coordinate with their departmental curriculum process. Curriculum committee meeting schedules are aligned with the monthly proposal deadlines established by the University Curriculum Committee. Proposals must be submitted through CourseLeaf CIM with sufficient lead time to reach the COSAM Coordinator Curriculum Management queue at least 1.5 weeks before the scheduled COSAM Curriculum Committee meeting.

Scheduling

The ADAA Office coordinates scheduling and planning processes for COSAM courses to support student success and the instructional needs of the college. This includes managing EASL classroom requests, coordinating SCMH course schedules, supporting long-range course planning and facilitating Camp War Eagle scheduling for core science and mathematics courses.

Schedule building is completed each semester several months before registration begins. Department schedulers work with department chairs, undergraduate and graduate program officers and faculty to plan the courses offered each term, including meeting days and times, classroom locations and instructors of record.

The COSAM ADAA Office coordinates schedule building for SCMH courses each semester, with the exception of SCMH 1010/1017 Concepts of Science. Questions about Concepts of Science should be directed to the Department of Geosciences.

Long-range schedules help students and academic advisors plan future course selections by showing when COSAM departments expect to offer courses in upcoming semesters.

The ADAA Office works with COSAM departmental schedulers to help ensure long-range schedules are updated regularly and available online.

We work with the Biggio Center and department schedulers to support requests for EASL classroom assignments.

Faculty interested in using an EASL classroom should contact their department scheduler to begin the request process.

Academic Assessment & Program Review

COSAM ADAA coordinates college-level processes that support academic quality, continuous improvement and university reporting. This includes annual assessment reporting for COSAM degree and certificate programs and academic program review for majors within the college.

Assessment Reporting

The ADAA Office helps ensure timely submission of annual assessment reports to the Provost and works with COSAM departments and the Office of Academic Insight to support effective reporting and improvement strategies.

Academic Program Reviews

The ADAA Office facilitates academic program reviews by coordinating timelines, serving as a liaison with university administration, helping select reviewers, scheduling visits and reviewing departmental self-study reports before submission.
